POPSIG Outstanding Final Year Design Project Award 2024

A team of chemical engineering students from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak had received the prestigious POPSIG Outstanding Final Year Design Project Award for their innovative project titled “Valorization of Green Glycerol from Palm-Oil Derived Biodiesel Plant into 1,3-Propanediol via Catalytic Hydrogenation”.

 

The team consists of Ms. Tiffany Ang Jia Ning, Selena Song Kian Yii, Juliana Kiu Pei Ying, Kumaraunnehelage Anupaja Esandi Benara Dias and Mr. Clarence Lau Yii Fang, was supervised by Ir Dr. How Bing Shen. Their project stood out for its technical excellence and innovative approach in converting a by-product of biodiesel production into a valuable chemical of numerous applications. This sustainable approach underscores the potential of green chemistry and fosters the principles of circular economy by improving resource utilisation efficiency and waste minimisation.
